The state Agency for Persons with Disabilities moved forward this week with a plan that will require some group-home residents to help pay for services.
The plan, which began taking effect Sunday, is part of a broader effort by the agency to deal with budget shortfalls.
It is estimated to bring in about $3 million during the rest of this fiscal year and about $8 million during full fiscal years.
The plan will apply to developmentally disabled people who receive income from sources such as Social Security and get services in such places as group homes, foster care facilities and residential habilitation centers, according to the agency.
The people would be able to keep $93.58 a month for personal needs, but extra income would help offset costs of services.
