Saturday’s program is part of a national Prescription Drug Take-Back Day being coordinated across the country in response to studies that show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. The take-back days help combat the problem by providing a safe, convenient, and responsible means for the public to voluntarily dispose of unwanted prescription drugs while also educating residents about the potential for abuse of these medications.
More than 2 million pounds of unwanted prescription drugs have been removed from circulation during the first five national drug take-back days coordinated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
