Instead of chocolates and roses, Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) is calling for volunteers to “Share the Love” this Valentine’s Day by helping families affected by hunger and homelessness.
On Friday, Feb. 14, HFUW is organizing service projects throughout Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, including:
- Sorting food donations at a food bank or emergency pantry
- Serving meals to homeless families
- Cooking meals for students at a school for at-risk youth or seniors
- Putting together weekend snack packs for low-income students
“In any given week, an estimated 55,000 Central Florida residents are experiencing hunger or relying on food pantry assistance,” said Traci Blue, director of Heart of Florida United Way’s Volunteer Resource Center. “By offering these volunteer activities, we hope that individuals will not only celebrate their love for each other this Valentine’s Day, but also compassion for the community.”
