Dr. Phillips Women’s Volleyball jumpstarted their season with a solid showing at the Edgewater Preseason Classic, knocking out Timber Creek in three sets (25-18, 17-25, 15-11) before sweeping through the host Eagles (25-16, 25-19). Ellie Ross picked up 12 digs and eight aces, Rachel Sawyer led the offense with 11 kills and Briana Jackson registered 29 assists and five kills. The Panthers will open up regular season play at West Orange Monday night unless the track of Tropical Storm Isaac affects school and activity schedules.
Tonight at Bill Spoone Stadium on the Dr. Phillips campus DP Football starts their season against the Gainesville Hurricanes in the Kickoff Classic at 7:00 pm. This is an earlier start time than usual. Tickets are $6.00 at the gate and athletic passes are not valid until the regular season begins officially next Friday night vs. Apopka.
