Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings in the Washington Shores community to unveil the rehabbed Village Square, formerly the Wilcox/Goldwyn shopping mall. The shopping center was recently transformed to promote economic development and expand accessibility to retail and professional services in the Washington Shores community.
The Village of Orlando, Inc. facilitated the rehabilitation of the shopping mall through an $808,469 Community Development Block Grant from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The 30,000 square foot complex consists of more than 40 retail/office spaces and community rooms available for non-profit and community organizations. Current stores include barber shops, hair salons, a dress and hat shop, a medical office, Central Florida Urban League satellite office, a sub shop and an ice cream parlor.
