Deputies have identified the victim who was shot and killed in an attempted armed robbery last Saturday night at the JC Grocery store on 1491 south Rio Grande Avenue.
The victim is John Clayton Williams, a white male, was nearly 63 years when he was gunned down on December 4th. Williams was born on December 8th, 1947.
Williams was shot and killed after an armed man entered the JC Grocery store close to 11:00 pm, on December 4th. A store clerk who saw the suspected gunman enter, displaying a handgun and pulling a mask over his face, drew his own pistol. Shots were fired and the victim, Williams fell to the floor. The suspect fled the scene, but not before being shot by the clerk.
Homicide investigators, after receiving several erroneous potential identifications of the victim, were able to positively identify Williams on Sunday. Investigators have been attempting to identify any next of kin and continue to look for a relative to notify of the victim’s passing, but have not been able to locate anyone.
Anyone who may see the victim’s information and could lead to a family member should call the Orange county Sheriff’s Homicide Unit.
Deputies said that the investigation is open and ongoing and they are following up with a potential suspect.
