Officials in Utah are planning to adopt a gun as their state symbol, less than one month after six people were gunned down in Tucson, Arizona.
The Browning M1911 automatic pistol is expected to become the 25th symbol of the conservative and largely rural state if approved by its House of Representatives next month.
Lawmakers supporting the plan claim that the weapon – invented in Utah 100 years ago – is part of the proud history of the state.
