Divers with the Tampa Police Marine Patrol recovered the body of a deceased adult female from the waters off Ballast Point. She has been identified as 72-year-old Miriam Nordlinger. A Purple Alert had been issued Saturday night after she left her home and did not return.
“The thoughts of the entire department are with the Nordlinger family at this time,” said Chief Bercaw. “This is not the outcome we had hoped for. We appreciate the concern of the community and media who helped bring awareness to the search and ask that you continue to keep the family in your thoughts as well.”
While the investigation is in its early stages, there is nothing to suggest foul play. The exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“Mental health crises can affect anyone in our community,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragedy as they navigate this difficult time.”
A man recently jumped off the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which spans Lower Tampa Bay to connect St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia in Central Florida, committing suicide.
