United Way Awards $6.1M to Local Agencies

Unitedwayl

Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW), Central Florida’s most comprehensive health and human services agency, recently awarded more than $6.1 million to nonprofit partner agencies in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. The funds will be used to support 70 programs at 50 organizations that serve HFUW’s primary focus areas: education, income, health, and alleviating hunger and homelessness.

Of the funding awarded, 30 percent was allocated to initiatives for developing healthy children and families. The rest was distributed to programs that build safe communities through education (27 percent), alleviate hunger and homelessness (25 percent) and improve financial stability (18 percent).

“…We hope to change the course for future generations of children and families by removing barriers to education,” said Robert H. (Bob) Brown, president and CEO of HFUW. “That means stabilizing poverty-stricken home environments, decreasing homeless student relocation, improving access to nutritious food and keeping kids healthy to reduce absenteeism. All of these factors help children achieve their highest potential.”
