Unbuckled passenger killed after convertible overturns in Orange County

deadlyaccident---18277178The passenger in a Toyota convertible was killed early on Saturday morning, after the vehicle overturned in a ditch, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 4:00 a.m., on Hall Road near Ridge Way in Orange County, troopers said.

Nathaniel Burghdoff, 24, was driving a 2002 Toyota convertible with the top down, northbound on Hall Road, when for an unknown reason he lost control of the vehicle. Troopers said, Burghdoff over-corrected and the Toyota overturned in a ditch.

Stephen Bally, 21, of Orlando, a passenger in the vehicle was ejected and died on the scene.  He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Burghdoff, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries.

It is not clear whether alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Troopers say, charges are pending.

Meanwhile, in a separate early morning crash in Orange County, troopers are trying to find the hit and run driver who killed a bicyclist on Sand Lake Road near Chancellor Drive around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Troopers said, an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on State Road 482 (Sand Lake Road) approaching Presidents Drive in the outside lane.

The unnamed bicyclist was heading eastbound in the westbound lane on Sand Lake Road approaching Chancellor Drive. The unknown driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle, stuck the front of the bicycle head on, and sped away from the scene.

The bicyclist was ejected off the bicyclist and a passer-by found the unnamed man lying in the roadway.  He was pronounced dead at the scene. He had no identification.

Trooper say, at this time, there is no vehicle identification.

This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, troopers said.
