On March 1, the Student Labor Action Project at UCF, will present a “Wall of Student Debt” where students will be asked to write the amount of loan debt they owe on the wall. At the end of the function, the entire debt that the UCF student body holds will be tallied and written across the wall.

Tuition hikes and scholarship cuts that UCF, the Board of Governors and the Florida Legislature plan on implementing will also be discussed at the forum. Recommendations will be offered on ways students can help themselves avoid or get out of debt, as well as, how they can mobilize to break the cycle of profit motivated education.

Student loan debt is projected to reach $1 trillion in 2012. It has already surpassed credit cards as the largest source of debt in the United States.

March 1 is the national day of action for education rights and falls within the National Student Debt Week of Action for SLAP and the United States Student Association (USSA).
