UCF Students to Protest Proposed Salary Increase For President Hitt

With $741,500 as his total salary, President John C. Hitt is already the ninth highest paid university president in the nation. This Thursday, November 15th, he stands to become the fifth most expensive university president if the University of Central Florida Board of Trustees votes to give him a base salary raise of $26,500.

UCF students will be demonstrating against the proposed salary increase for President Hitt at the UCF Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday. The demonstration will take place Thursday, November 15, 2012, at 9:00am outside the Live Oak Conference Room.

In response to the student body’s growing frustrations regarding a fourth straight year of 15 percent tuition increases at the university, administration placed the blame on budget cuts made at the state level. To increase President Hitt’s salary during a time of supposed austerity and after the burden of the state cuts were passed onto students would be reprehensible and hypocritical.

Members of the Student Labor Action Project (SLAP) at UCF, National Organization for Women (NOW) at UCF, Voices for Planned Parenthood (VOX) at UCF, Dream Defenders, and African Students Organization (ASO) will be demonstrating to let the Board of Trustees know we reject this proposed injustice.
