Two Local Arts Advocates Appointed to Florida Council on Arts and Culture

United Arts announces that both President & CEO, Margot H. Knight, and local arts advocate Chip Weston have both been appointed to the Florida Council on Arts and Culture by the Honorable Dean Cannon, Speaker of the House.

“My primary goal will be working towards the arts community having one voice to create a more vital state arts agency,” says Knight. “I am grateful to Speaker Cannon for appointing me – the arts are too important to the future economic development of the state to allow the state arts council to deteriorate any further.”

The Florida Council on Arts and Culture is a 15-member advisory council appointed to advise Florida’s secretary of state regarding cultural grant funding and all matters pertaining to culture in Florida. Appointments to the Council are determined by the governor, president of the Senate and speaker of the house, in consultation with the secretary of state.

Knight and Weston increase the Central Florida presence on the Council, joining Kathryn Townsend, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, whose appointment began last October.
