Orange County deputies have arrested two suspects in the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Jeffrey N. Carpenter.

Carpenter was gunned down on February 22, in the parking lot of the Sun Key Apartments at 4205 Long Key Lane in east Orange County, as he and his girlfriend waited to meet a friend.

Investigators said Monday, Jeremy Lamar Long, 19, named a Person of Interest, was arrested in Essex County in New Jersey, as is awaiting extradition.

The other suspect in Carpenter’s murder, Antoine McLain, 24, was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is in the Orange County Jail.

Long and McLain have been charged with first degree murder.

Detectives have not revealed a motive for the slaying of Carpenter, but would only say it was a tip from a citizen tip that led to the arrests of Long and McLain.
