Two individuals were arrested for being involved in a Central Florida hit-and-run incident that left a victim with multiple injuries. The victim attempted to stop a retail theft.
On November 18th at 2:07pm, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Shell gas station located at 11302 North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa after reports of a hit-and-run that left a victim seriously injured.
Through investigative efforts, local deputies determined that the vehicle arrived at the gas station and parked in front of the store. The front-seat passenger, 24-year-old Jose Corbo, entered the store, took two soda bottles without paying, and exited.
When the store clerk confronted Corbo as he re-entered the vehicle, the driver, 24-year-old Marie Uribe, sped away.
According to law enforcement, the victim attempted to intervene, approaching the car, and Corbo held the victim’s arm onto it before ultimately pushing them out. The victim lost her balance and was run over as the vehicle fled the scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and was in stable condition.
Deputies arrested Marie Uribe and she is facing charges of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Serious Bodily Injury, and Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm (x2).
On November 20th, deputies arrested Jose Corbo and he is facing charges of Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm (X2), Resisting Arrest or Detention in Retail Theft, Petit Theft ($100 or Less), and Out of County Warrant – (VOP) Grand Theft Motor Vehicle.
“This senseless act of violence left an innocent person seriously injured. We will not tolerate reckless actions like this that put lives at risk,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We hope this arrest brings some measure of comfort to the victim as she recover from this traumatic incident.”
This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
