Troopers Identify 2 Killed in Major Turnpike Crash

fb28Generic-News-Fatal-Crash.jpegThe identities of the driver and passenger, both truckers from South Florida, killed on the Turnpike on Tuesday morning have been released.

Driver Donald Carroll, 35, of Miramar, and Jesse Singleton, 36, of Florida City, were pronounced dead on the spot when their semi-truck rear-ended another semi-truck near mile marker 271 in Orange County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Carroll was driving northbound just before 5:00 a.m. on the Florida Turnpike, when he failed to notice another semi-truck, also heading northbound, traveling below the speed limit, and crashed into it.

Larry Jones, 54, of Orlando, the driver of the second semi truck, told troopers he had pulled to the right emergency lane to check on a possible tire issue and was pulling back into the northbound lanes when the crash occurred.

Carroll and Singleton, who troopers believe was in the sleeper portion of the semi’s cab, were ejected onto the road and died at the scene.

Trooper said, the crash remains under investigation.
