Trooper Hit by Car near Orlando International Airport

A trooper sustained serious injuries after he was hit by a car on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The accident occurred on State Road 528 near Orange Avenue in the vicinity of the Orlando International Airport, just after 8:30 a.m.

38-year-old Trooper Dave Rodriquez was getting back on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, when 20-year-old Brittany Mikus, traveling westbound on SR 528, hit the rear of the motorcycle, throwing the trooper onto the hood of the 2001 Hyundai Sonata that Mikus was driving.

It is not clear why Mikus left the roadway and traveled into the emergency lane where the the trooper was properly parked.

Mikus’ vehicle also hit a speed limit sign which fell on top of Trooper Rodriquez, who had been ejected onto the median.

The trooper sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.

FHP said, the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
