Trayvon Martin’s Investigation Heads to Grand Jury

Seminole State Attorney Norm Wolfinger said Tuesday morning that he would request a grand jury to investigate the Trayvon Martin shooting.

“I share in the desire of the family and the community to accurately collect and evaluate all the facts surrounding the tragic death of Trayvon Martin,” Wolfinger said in a released statement.  Wolfinger said, he would be “utilizing the investigative resources of the Seminole Grand Jury.”

Wolfinger’s announcement comes on the heels of the FBI and U.S. Justice Department’s decision to investigate the case.

Martin, a 17-year-old unarmed black teen was shot and killed by a self-appointed neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, 28, in a gated community in Sanford on February 26.

To date, Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged.

In Central Florida and around the country, there have been rallies and protests calling for justice for Martin.

Martin, was found with a bag of Skittles and an iced tea, following his killing.

The grand jury will be called into session on April 10, 2012.
