Universal Studios Orlando received a special transmission tonight warning everyone to “prepare for battle.” Crowds cheered around Universal’s lagoon as Optimus Prime delivered news of Transformers hitting Orlando in summer 2013.
Optimus Prime warns that Megatron and his Decepticons are mobilizing for an attack that could decimate this planet and Orlando will be where the action goes down. Transformers: The Ride 3-D will take riders on a journey to the front lines of the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in what promises to be another epic attraction using the latest technology. Universal also launched a website dedicated to the new ride: www.prepareforbattle.com.
The special message followed a half hour of robotic warnings of an impending announcement and “electronic glitches” providing clues to Universal’s newest attraction. Construction workers even took a brief break from actively working (sparks flying and all) to watch the transmission. Large crowds excitedly gathered to watch the announcement.
Coming off the heels of Disney’s $4 billion LucasFilm announcement, Universal showed with style that they are not backing down from a huge expansion themselves. The Transformers ride, based on a ride from Universal Hollywood, will be finished and open before the expected Harry Potter expansion, which is also actively under construction. The new ride will allow Universal to have a dominating schedule of new openings over the next few years.
