The Transformers have arrived in Orlando and their new home is now just weeks away from opening to the public. Universal Orlando’s newest attraction welcomed its stars Optimus Prime and Bumblebee as the Transformers gift shop opened today.

The outside of the new “NEST” (Non-biological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty) building is heavily themed and nearly complete, with crews only seemingly making minor adjustments and final touches. With the gift shop already open, we can only speculate at the progress made to the ride system inside. While scheduled to open in “Summer 2013,” it is more likely that soft opening runs of the ride are just weeks away.

Transformers: The Ride 3-D will take riders on a journey to the front lines of the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in what promises to be another epic attraction using the latest technology. Late last year, Optimus Prime delivered a message to park guests and fans about the new attraction.

The ride will use a similar roving motion base vehicle and a digital projection system that Universal pioneered for its fan-favorite attraction The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, but with modern upgrades and exhilarating features.

Construction of the attraction went quickly as much of the Universal Studios park remains under construction with the new Harry Potter expansion and The Simpsons make-over also continue at a rapid pace.

Transformers: The Ride 3-D is open at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Singapore.
