Traffic Shift Planned for Lake Underhill Road in Orlando

A traffic shift is planned for the ongoing project to widen two busy Orlando roads in east Orange County. Crews are working to widen Econlackhatchee Trail from south of Lake Underhill Road to just north of S.R. 408. Lake Underhill Road is also being widened near the intersection with Econlackhatchee Trail.

Beginning Monday, November 6th, westbound traffic on Lake Underhill Road will shift onto a temporary lane that has been paved adjacent to the existing lane. Eastbound traffic will shift onto the existing westbound lane.

Variable message boards and signage remain in place to alert drivers of the traffic shift.

Traffic is being shifted off the westbound lane of Lake Underhill Road to create space for crews to begin installing box culverts through the canal along the roadway.

Following the traffic shift, temporary concrete barrier walls will be installed on both sides of Lake Underhill Road.

The traffic shift will remain in place for about a year before being moved back onto the newly constructed roadway over the box culvert along the existing drainage canal.

The $66.7 million Econlockhatchee Trail Improvement Project should be complete by the first quarter of 2026.
