Casey Anthony’s defense team has filed a number of motions seeking to have key pieces of evidence tossed out that would link their client to her daughter’s murder.
Specifically, Casey’s lawyers have filed a motion to prevent the jury from hearing about a heart-shaped sticker found with the remains of Caylee Anthony. Similar stickers were discovered in the Anthony’s family home, reports abcactionnews.com.
When Caylee’s remains were found, a piece of silver duck tape had been placed over the child’s mouth. Investigators say that when the duck tape was processed, residue found was consistent with the shape of a heart.
Another piece of evidence that the defense would like tossed out is the video of Casey’s reaction upon learning that Caylee’s body had been found. The defense has argued that Casey, who was jailed at the time, did not know she was being video-taped and that it was a set up to see her reaction, reports clickorlando.com.
Justice Belvin Perry has not ruled on the motions nor given an indication when he would do so.
Anthony is charged with first degree murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. She has maintained her innocence and has said that her daughter was kidnapped by a baby sitter. The child’s remains were found in a wooded area near the Anthony family home, in December 2008.
Anthony is in the Orange County Jail awaiting trial which is expected to commence in May 2011.
