The Florida League of Christian Schools (FLOCS) today announced the winner of the 2009 FLOCS/SEU Scholarship. The scholarship holder is Korey Deck of Faith Christian Academy in Orlando, Florida.
Korey earned an impressive 28 credits toward graduation with a cumulative GPA of 3.95. A member of the National and Latin Honor Societies, Korey served as an officer on the NHS and Student Council, as yearbook editor, and has played soccer, basketball, and baseball all four years of high school. Additionally, Korey competed in the National Fine Arts Festival each year and has placed 3rd for Drama Group and 2nd for First Person Essay. Korey has served as a volunteer in summer camp and church events. Korey will major in Secondary Social Studies Education at Southeastern University beginning the fall of 2009.
The FLOCS/SEU Scholarship was established to supports the mission of Christian Schools to prepare students for serving their community in their profession and to promote education which integrates Christian distinctives and a biblical worldview in all it teaches. The award is a $2,000 scholarship for outstanding high school seniors. “We commend the dedication, achievement and contributions of these young, talented students who have dedicated their lives not only to academic excellence, but also moral excellence and commitment to our faith,” said Michael Burroughs, executive director of the Florida League of Christian Schools. “Programs like the FLOCS/SEU Scholarship pay tribute to the impact of Christian education in our country. But they also pave the way for more students to receive training with a Christian worldview in a career path that benefits us all. We are thrilled to be awarding this scholarship to some of the brightest scholars in Florida today.”
Eligible students must be entering their freshman year of undergraduate study at Southeastern University located in beautiful Lakeland, Florida.
