Three Florida Cancer Specialists Nominated for Man/Woman of the Year

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) has announced that Dr. Julia Cogburn, Dr. Vipul Patel and Dr. Meera Iyengar have been nominated by several local Florida chapters of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as Man/Woman of the Year for 2016. After an intensive nominating and vetting process, these outstanding physicians and community leaders accepted the challenge to engage in a spirited competition to raise funds for blood cancer research and earn the coveted title of “Man/Woman of the Year.”
Dr. Julia Cogburn, who practices in Tampa and Brandon, FL, was nominated by the Suncoast Chapter of LLS. “As a medical oncologist and hematologist,” Dr. Cogburn said, “I have tremendous respect for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This organization funds critical research that translates into improved therapies and survival rates for blood cancers.”
With offices in Inverness and Ocala, Dr. Vipul Patel was nominated by the North & Central Florida Chapter of LLS. Dr. Patel said, “The Man/Woman of the Year Program not only supports blood cancer research but also patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well. It is an honor to be nominated by an organization that contributes so much to blood cancer research and to our patients.”
Dr. Meera Iyengar added, “I am also personally honored to be nominated, along with my colleagues at FCS, to help raise funds for this vital research. LLS lessens the burden for our patients and families through education and financial assistance; through their partnership with oncologists like me, LLS works hard to make a difference in the lives of those living with hematologic malignancies.” Dr. Iyengar, who sees patients in Clermont and downtown Orlando, was also nominated by the LLS North & Central Florida Chapter.
