Thompson Urges Participation in Ride of Silence

District 4 Commissioner Jennifer Thompson will participate in the 8th Annual Ride of Silence on May 18th. This ride honors cyclists lost or injured due to motorists while promoting a sharing of the road. The Ride of Silence is organized by the East Side Cycling Club.

“As a cyclist and board member of Metro Plan, I am honored to participate and help bring awareness to the tragedies that can occur regarding cyclists on the road. I encourage residents to join me and participate in this ride to help educate the community on the rights of cyclists.”

The 8th Annual Ride of Silence will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18th, at the Avalon Park YMCA located at 12001 Avalon Lake Drive.

At the same time nationwide, cyclists will take the road in a silent procession. The ride is free and asks cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph. Over 200 cyclists are expected to participate.
