Rep. Geraldine Thompson, reacting to Circuit Judge Jackie Fulford’s ruling that it is unconstitutional for state workers to pay three percent into their retirement, issued the following statement:
“The ruling by Judge Fulford today declaring unconstitutional the three percent cut to State workers’ salaries is a victory for individuals who accepted contracts for positions that included state-paid retirement benefits. Many workers have accepted less-than-competitive salaries only because they expected to receive reliable retirement benefits. Many teachers, firefighters and police officers will essentially have their full salaries restored. The state of Florida should not seek to balance its budget or eliminate a budget deficit by breaching contracts with state workers.”
