Beyond the glitz and glamour of the Republican National Convention in the Tampa area, there are other neighborhoods – rundown and plighted – out of sight of the thousands of journalists who have come in to cover the convention.
Areas such as West Tampa, East Tampa, Sulphur Springs and Robles Park among others, reek of poverty, high unemployment, foreclosures, crime and in general, lack of economic development.
Kelly Benjamin organized a media tour on Saturday so that some media could “see the other side of Tampa,” tampabay.com reported.
“This is what the city doesn’t want the media to see,” said Benjamin.
