The Commander in Chief takes Charge

In an effort to demonstrate greater leadership, President Obama will address the nation on Tuesday evening from the Oval office and plans to call on BP to set up an escrow account with billions of dollars to pay claims to those businesses and individuals that have suffered losses, on account of the Deepwater Horizon oil catastrophe, reports the New York Times.

Obama will make his statement from the Oval Office more than 50 days after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig blew up on April 20, and subsequently sank claiming the lives of 11 Americans, and as oil inundates the marshes and beaches of Louisiana, and threatens to do so in Alabama and Florida.

The president will on Monday embark on a two-day tour of the Gulf Coast and will visit Gulfport,  Mississippi; Theodore, Alabama and Pensacola Florida to survey the response efforts, visit with gulf residents impacted by the spill and meet with area officials.
