Terror on Carter Street

Yesterday, August 12, 2008, the Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a robbery/shooting at 4855 Carter Street.  Upon arrival deputies learned the following:

A woman, her daughter, and four young children arrived home and, after pulling into the driveway of the residence, were immediately confronted by four or five black males, all armed with handguns, all dressed in black, baseball caps, and shirts or masks covering their faces.  Suspects are believed to be between 20 and 26 years old, 5’ 10” to 6’ 2”, all thin build.  No other suspect information at this time.

The suspects forced the women and children out of the car and into the house at gunpoint and demanded money.  As the women were complying a 15 year old boy who was inside the residence apparently startled the suspects who responded by firing several shots at him.  He was hit at least once, possibly three times.  After firing shots all suspects fled on foot, direction of travel unknown.  The youngster was transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital with gunshot wounds.  At this hour his condition does not appear to be life threatening but his exact condition is unknown.

Deputies responding to the scene searched the neighborhood for the suspects who, based on a K-9 track, may have fled on foot to a nearby car and fled the area.  (K-9 ran a track which abruptly ended suggesting they got into a waiting vehicle.)

All suspects remain at large at this t
