For the third consecutive year, Women’s Tennis captured the Metro West Conference Championship and it came down to freshman Sara Veugeler, who handled the pressure like a seasoned veteran. After sophomore Sarah Baron and senior Maria Contreras cruised to 8-2 victories in lines one and two, Veugeler’s singles match in line four became the most important contest. The Panthers (13-2) knew they would take line one doubles (Baron and Contreras) for the third win but after falling in lines three and five singles, Veugeler’s marathion match was one they had to have for the team title. She came through with an 8-6 victory to give the Panthers a 4-3 victory over rival Olympia and their 13th conference title in team history. DP will now set their sights on their third consecutive DIstrict Championship at Lake Cane, April 3rd.

Senior Walker Haymaker drilled a shot through the second baseman for a two-run single and DP (5-9) looked sharp early. In the home second, Ronnie Mitchell bounced a high chopper over third for a base hit and was safe at second on Jakob Probst’s sacrifice bunt attempt to give DP runners at first and second. Robbie Barrett stepped in and lined a single to center to score Mitchell for a 3-0 lead but that was all the offense for the day for DP.
