Gun fire erupted at a house party in Apopka on Saturday night, resulting in six victims being taken to local area hospitals, one of whom is in critical condition. Apopka police was able to locate the teen shooter after he was identified by several witnesses.
17-year-old Johnny Barnes is believed to be the shooter and has been charged with 8 counts of attempted second degree murder with a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Deputies were called to 834 Piedmont Wekiva Road just before 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night, where they found 6 gunshot victims inside the residence. One of the guests, later identified as Johnny Barnes, had brandished a handgun and fired shots, following an argument, witnesses told investigators.
Four of the victims were transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center and 2 were taken to Florida Hospital for treatment. Two of those victims underwent surgery, one of which is in critical condition. Three additional victims self-transported to local hospitals.
Witnesses told investigators that the shooter left the scene in an SUV. Later, Apopka police located the vehicle and detained a subject matching the suspect’s description.
Barnes was identified by several witnesses.
