Teen Indicted for Murder for Orlando Shooting

A teen was indicted for first degree murder for a 2023 Orlando shooting.

An Orange County grand jury formally indicted 19-year-old Darius Jackson Jr., for First Degree Murder and Attempted Felony Murder for the death of a man in a 2023 shooting in Orange County.

On October 14, 2023, Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 5800 block of S. Rio Grande Avenue in Orlando in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found two victims with gunshot wounds.

One victim, who drove to the location with the second gunshot victim, directed deputies to an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Lake Heritage Circle where the shooting occurred.

Orange County Fire Rescue transported both victims to the hospital. Doctors treated the driver for a gunshot wound to the leg, while the second victim, 26-year-old Stefon Yaw, suffered gunshot wounds to his head and chest. A doctor pronounced Yaw deceased the next day.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office detectives gathered information that the victims drove to the apartment complex to meet with someone. The unknown suspect(s) fired upon them shortly after they arrived.

A separate defendant, 17-year-old Jahmon Cuencas, was previously indicted for his role in the murder and admitted to being one of two shooters. Detectives determined Darius Jackson Jr. set up the attempted robbery that led to the victims being shot.

State Attorney Andrew Bain’s office presented sufficient evidence to a grand jury to secure an indictment against Jackson Jr. for First Degree Murder and Attempted Felony Murder.
