An Orlando father of a 4-month-old baby girl who died Tuesday at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, has been arrested.
Heriberto MontesRamos, 18, the father of little Mia Valentina Montes Balleste, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse.
According to MontesRamos’ arrest report, the 4-month-old baby was left in his care for a short while on Sunday. He told investigators that he had placed the infant in a bouncy chair and while he walked away to pick up toys, he heard a “loud noise.” That’s when he found Mia lying face down on the floor.
MontesRamos also told investigators that he attempted to revive his daughter by holding alcohol near her nose, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the baby’s mother returned home to find the infant not breathing and rushed her to a Fire Station for emergency assistance. The baby was transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital by the Fire Department.
Mia suffered several injuries, including a fractured skull, retina hemorrhaging and swelling on the brain, according MontesRamos’ arrest report.
For now, MontesRamos has been charged with aggravated child abuse. But homicide detectives have taken over the case as a death investigation.
