Tampa Police Seize Guns, Drugs, and Gambling Equipment during Search Warrant

Tampa police seized guns, drugs and gambling equipment during a recent Central Florida search.

The Tampa Police Department successfully executed a search warrant on February 22, 2024, at the Shop Rite Food Mart located at 2518 N Albany Ave. This resulted in the arrest of eleven individuals and the seizure of drugs, guns, illegal slot machines, and cash.

“This successful operation represents the culmination of weeks of dedicated work by our officers driven by the concerns of the community,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We take these reports seriously and are committed to working closely with residents to make Tampa safer, together.”

Throughout February, members of the Tampa community expressed concerns about potential criminal activity at the Shop Rite Food Mart, including suspected narcotics sales, illegal gambling, and the presence of firearms. Acting on these concerns, Tampa Police launched an investigation, gathering evidence and collaborating with the State Attorney’s Office to secure a search warrant.

On February 22nd, Tampa Police, with assistance from agents with the Florida Department of Revenue’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco and the Florida Department of Lottery Security Division, executed the search warrant, uncovering significant evidence of illegal activity.

The following items were seized:

  • A Glock 19 handgun
  • A Charter Arms revolver
  • 23.81 grams of cocaine
  • 466 grams of marijuana
  • Ten (10) illegal slot machines
  • More than $1,400 in US currency

In addition to the seized evidence, eleven individuals were arrested and charged with various offenses, including:

  • Carrying a Concealed Firearm
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Agent of a Gambling House
  • Keeping a Public Nuisance Structure for Drug Activity
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • Possession of Cocaine
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Resisting an Officer Without Violence

“This outcome is a testament to the power of community engagement and collaboration,” added Chief Bercaw. “We are grateful to those who spoke up and shared their concerns, allowing us to investigate, take action, and ensure residents feel safer in their neighborhoods.”
