An officer of the Tampa Police Department has been placed on administrative leave following an arrest for Battery Domestic Violence in Central Florida.
Cornelius Young was arrested this month in an off-duty incident at Cortaro Drive in Sun City, following a reported verbal argument with an adult female victim known to him that turned physical. According to law enforcement, the victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the altercation.
“To say this is disappointing is an understatement,” said Tampa Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our thoughts are with the victim involved. We are committed to transparency with our internal investigation. The allegations don’t represent the mission of the Tampa Police Department.”
Young, employed with TPD since November 2023, was immediately relieved of his duties.
According to TPD, he will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into this incident.
