The Tampa Police Department is investigating an officer-involved incident after a shot was fired towards a suspect.
While involved in a foot pursuit of a suspect, a Tampa Police officer fired his service weapon on the 400 block of S Albany Ave at around 11:30pm on March 14, 2026, according to local law enforcement.
Based on the preliminary investigation, an officer, as part of the department’s current enhanced patrol safety initiatives, located two individuals who appeared to be engaged in narcotic-related activities in an alleyway located on the 400 block of S Howard Ave.
When the officer attempted to make contact with the subjects, one of the subjects fled on foot and dropped a small bag of narcotics. The officer chased the suspect, 24-year-old Marco Fragoso, on foot, but lost sight on him.
Moments later, the officer located Fragoso hiding next to a vehicle in a driveway located on the 400 block of S Albany Ave. The officer saw the suspect motion toward his waistband, which resulted in the officer firing one round towards the suspect, according to local law enforcement.
Fragoso was not struck by gunfire and did not sustain any injuries. He was immediately taken into custody. The TPD officer did not sustain any injuries.
As a result of the incident, Marco Fragoso was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and resisting arrest without violence.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave as standard with Tampa Police Department protocol.
