Tampa Police Arrest 14-Year-Old in Connection with Fatal Ybor Shooting

This week, Tampa Police arrested 14-year-old Kadyn Michael Abney in connection with the fatal Ybor City shooting that occurred on October 29, 2023.

At the time of the shocking Central Florida incident, two officers were alerted to a disturbance at the intersection of 16th St and 7th Ave. where they observed a subject, later identified as Abney, displaying a firearm before fleeing the scene.

Tampa Police detectives developed leads that suggested Abney was in Palm Beach. After determining Abney’s location, Tampa Police detectives worked with the Palm Beach Fugitive Apprehension Unit to make the arrest.

“There is no reasonable explanation for a 14-year-old to be in possession of a firearm,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “I am incredibly proud of the hard work our officers and detectives continue to dedicate to this investigation, which has led to another significant arrest in the case. We appreciate all the tips provided by our community to aid this investigation and we will continue to work closely with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure that all those involved are arrested and held accountable for their actions. Our job is not finished.”

Abney was taken into custody in Palm Beach County on November 16th, and charged with one (1) Felony Count of Minor In Possession of a Firearm While Wearing a Mask and one (1) Felony Count of Carrying a Concealed Firearm.

Detectives are tirelessly working to identify the remaining persons of interest in this video. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to submit their tip via the FBI portal online. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 800-873-TIPS (8477) or online at crimestopperstb.com and be eligible for a reward up to $5,000.
