Suspicious Device Leads to School Evacuation

UPDATE 1:  11:55 AM – 10.08.10 — Parents of children attending Pinar Elementary School are apparently starting to respond to the school in an effort to pick up their youngsters.  Parents are asked to go to the Publix Shopping Center at Chickasaw Trail and Curry Ford Road and not to attempt to drive to the school.  Roads in and around Pinar Elementary School have been closed pending the completion of this operation.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said the Pinar Elementary School has been evacuated, after a suspicious device was located on the roof of the school.

According to deputies, around 10:37 am on Friday, a call was received from Pinar Elementary School at 3701 Anthony Lane, indicating that a suspicious device was found on the roof of the school.   School officials and the Sheriff’s Office immediately locked down the school and evacuated all of the students to the Liberty Middle School.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Device Team is responding to the school to examine and recover the suspicious item. The main roads near the school off of Anthony Lane have been closed.
