Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Central Florida Jewelry Store Owner Indicted for Murder

The suspect in a fatal shooting of a Central Florida jewelry store owner was indicted for murder.




The Volusia County grand jury heard the case of the defendant who is accused of shooting the owner of a jewelry store on West International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach on July 19, 2024, after an argument escalated and shots were fired.

83-year-old John Craiger was indicted for first-degree murder.

After he shot the owner of the jewelry store, the victim’s son then shot back at him in defense and Craiger returned fire.

The victim died from his injuries at the hospital.

The 83-year-old defendant was in a wheelchair at the Volusia County Courtroom this week.

In the indictment, Craiger was charged with First-Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder.

The case against Craiger was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department.
