Orange County Public Schools Public Relations Director Dylan Thomas is the new president of the Sunshine State Public Relations Association (SUNSPRA). Thomas’ term began July 1, 2010 and lasts for two years. SUNSPRA has operated in Florida for 30 years with its mission to build widespread support for Florida public education by engaging all key stakeholders in student success and public school improvement.
Thomas joined Orange County Public Schools(OCPS) in August of 2004 and directs the communications and public relations activities of the district, the 10th largest in the United States. Under his charge is a staff that manages media relations, public information services, video production and broadcasting, volunteer and business partner relationships, graphic design, web content, and collateral media production. He works closely to serve the needs of the superintendent, his executive staff, and school board members. He and his staff are ready resources to school principals and district departments that need counsel in speaking to the media, developing and producing community engagement plans, and a host of other public relations skills. The OCPS Public Relations Department is an annual winner of multiple state and national awards for communication campaigns.
Prior to his service to OCPS, Thomas spent 23 years with Florida Citrus Sports, a non-profit membership organization that presents two college football post-season bowl games and a host of other sporting events and activities in Orlando, Florida.
