Another student was recently arrested for bringing a weapon to a Central Florida school.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested a ninth-grade student at Lennard High School, in Ruskin south of Tampa, for bringing a purple stun gun to school.
Earlier this month, administrators at the school received a tip that 15-year-old Yesenia Rivera reportedly had a weapon with her on campus.
An administrative search was conducted by school officials, which revealed a purple stun gun located in the student’s purse.
Based on the investigation, Rivera was charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. Rivera did not threaten students or administrators on campus and has no prior arrest history.
“The bag a student brings to school should contain tools to learn, not tools to harm,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Thank you to those who see something and say something. The anonymous tip helped administrators act quickly to prevent a potentially dangerous situation from happening.”
