A student was arrested for bringing a gun to school in Orlando today.
According to the Orlando Police Department, school resource officers at Dr. Phillips High School were notified that a student on campus was armed with a firearm. Dr. Phillips High School is part of Orange County Public Schools.
OPD officers quickly identified and located the student, 17-year-old Joshua Brown, in his classroom. When he attempted to flee, SROs intervened and safely took him into custody.
A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from Brown’s backpack, which was in his possession at the time.
According to local law enforcement, Brown was arrested and is facing charges of possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, and resisting arrest without violence.
“This is exactly how it’s supposed to work,” OPD Chief Eric Smith stated. “Our officers acted quickly on a tip from the community.”
This remains an active investigation, according to the Orlando Police Department.
