The Florida Civil Rights Association is calling on Governor Rick Scott to replace State Attorney Angela Corey and appoint a Special Prosecutor, in the shooting death of Jordan Russell Davis, on November 23, 2012.

In a two page letter to Scott, J. Willie David, III, the organizer’s president stated the following: A New Special Prosecutor is needed to suppress racial tension created in the failed prosecution by Ms. Corey and her staff that led to a NOT GULITY verdict in the trial of George Zimmerman who murdered Trayvon Martin. Because of the Not Guilty verdict, Ms. Corey has created the appearance that she will not afford the Defendant a fair trial and will not afford the victim and the surviving case a fair opportunity to have their voices heard at trial, the letter stated.

Ms. Corey has created an indistinguishable fog over her office regarding integrity and adhering to the highest standards of ethical behavior regarding Brady disclosure or employing untrustworthy employees, explained David. Also, Ms. Corey and her staff face potential sanctions in both state and federal courts regarding turning over evidence, stated David.

The Florida Civil Rights Association believes appointing a special prosecutor to replace State Attorney Angela Corey is the right thing to do for victim Jordan Davis and suspect Michael David Dunn. The State and Federal constitutions demand public confidence in our criminal justice system which Corey and her staff have failed.
