Stanford Back in Jail, Diagnosed with Aneurysm

Allen Stanford, former flamboyant billionaire, who is accused of masterminding a multi-billion fraud scheme is back in the Texas jail.   He was taken to hospital last Thursday, on account of a racing heart rate.

Tests have discerned that Stanford suffered from an aneurysm in his left leg, a condition that can be corrected with surgery, his lawyer’s office said.

An aneurysm is a localized, blood-filled dilation (balloon-like bulge) of a blood vessel caused by disease or weakening of the vessel wall.

Stanford was due to appear in court last Thursday, where his legal representation ought to have been discussed.  He was unable to do so, given his medical condition.

Stanford has been charged with 21 counts including masterminding a $7 billion Ponzi scheme involving certificates of deposit based at his Antigua Stanford International Bank.

Stanford, if convicted faces a potential sentence of 375 years in prison.  He has maintained his innocence.
