Nomusa Zikhali, founder of one of the largest South African schools, Nkomo Primary School, will visit Palm Lake Elementary school in Orlando tomorrow, to pay tribute to the many volunteers who helped repaint and refurbish the school in Kwa Zulu Natal province.
In 2009, teachers from Palm Lake Elementary and representatives from Disney’s Worldwide Conservation Fund traveled to the Nkomo Primary School in Kwa Zulu Natal province to design murals, repaint buildings and provide books, school uniforms, toys and curriculum for a new wildlife conservation program along with hot meals for the students. Additional funds raised helped provide a water collection system allowing Nkomo students to have access to fresh water.
On Thursday, December 2nd, Palm Lake Elementary students, teachers and friends will welcome Nomusa Zikhali, principal and founder of Nkomo Primary School.
Mrs. Zikhali started the Nkomo Primary School in 1999 with 20 children sitting under the trees in rural KwaZulu Natal. Today, the school boasts several buildings and more than 800 students, many of whom are orphans.
