Softball holds off Boone; JV Baseball blanks Olympia

Amy Almond’s RBI single in the sixth inning brought home Tai Griffith with the game-winning run as Softball held off visiting Boone for a 4-3 victory. DP (14-7) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Braves in the second inning when Marisa Lagos singled in Sarah Lang and Almond knocked in Jecoliah Pratt with a base hit. In the third, Sarah Lang put the Panthers up, 3-0, with a solo home run before Boone tied things up. In the sixth, Kalie Hernandez tripled, Tai Griffith came in to run for Hernandez and Almond brought Griffith home with a base hit. Almond finished 2-3 with two RBIs, Sarah Lang went 1-2 with a homer and scored twice while Lagos was 2-3 with a run batted in. Jecoliah Pratt picked up the victory on the mound, allowing just six hits while striking out six.

In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, JV Baseball (12-4) rolled to a 7-0 victory over visiting Olympia (14-2-1) for their eighth straight win behind a tremendous outing from Adam Polansky. The sophomore righthander pitched six scoreless innings, scattered three hits and struck out seven to pick up the win while freshman Daniel Probst came on in relief in the seventh and struck out the side. DP got all the offense they needed in the first inning. Josh Jimenez led off with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Yasin Chentouf. Nolan Lang and Brandon Portalatin walked to load the bases and Nick Mason grounded out to bring in the eventual game-winning run. They weren’t finished, of course. Michael Marinaccio and Matt Sullivan followed with RBI singles, Brett Seelig walked to reload the bases and Brendan Maher was hit by a pitch to bring in Marinaccio from third. With a 4-0 lead, Polansky simply threw strikes the rest of the way. DP picked up a pair of runs in the second as well. Yasin Chentouf reached base on an error, Nick Mason ripped an RBI double and Matt Sullivan chopped an RBI single over third base to score Mason as the lead swelled to 6-0. In the sixth, DP went to work again. Nolan Lang drew a walk, Nick Mason doubled again to put runners at second and third and Michael Marinaccio grounded out to bring in Lang for the 7-0 final.

Varsity Baseball took a 1-0 first inning lead over Olympia but couldn’t hold off the top-ranked Titans in a 9-4 loss Saturday. With one out in the bottom of the first, Robbie Barrett doubled and Walker Haymaker laced a single to left to bring him home but Olympia responded in the second with a two-run home run to take the lead for good. Down 4-1 in the third, the Panthers got a run back when Barrett led off with a solo home run. Jack Flaherty followed with a double into the left center field alley and Ryan Larson walked but the Panthers stranded both runners. Olympia tacked on five more runs to take a 9-2 lead into the seventh before DP (9-12) made one final push. Mike Flaherty singled with one out, Zach Holbrook reached on an infield single down the third base line and Walker Haymaker reached on an error which allowed Flaherty to score from second. Jalen Phillips stepped in and brought home Holbrook with an infield single to make it 9-4, but that was as close as it would get.
