Advocates for keeping Social Security and Medicare from being cut will rally this afternoon in Miami’s Little Havana and march through the downtown area.
Groups involved in the march share a “concern over fairness for the middle class,” said Eddie Venero, a leader of the group “Hands Off – No Cuts.”
With Congress looking to cut the budget – and mandated cuts a possibility – Florida, in particular, with its large elderly population has seen several protests against cuts to the entitlement programs.
“We must create jobs and reject cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, not only for Floridians but for the millions of Americans that depend on these critical programs,” Venero said.
The rally begins at 4 p.m., Thursday at Jose Marti Park in Miami’s Little Havana.
