Skittles won’t Capitalize on Trayvon Martin Tragedy

Trayvon Martin, 17, had in his possession a bag of Skittles and a bottle of iced tea when he was shot and killed by a gun-toting neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, 28, nearly one month ago.

But Skittles won’t seek to capitalize on the tragedy, according to a statement released by the brand.  Instead, the company released a statement expressing their condolences to the Martin family, loop21.com reports.

Apparently, the company was approached to undertake some advertising, but have declined to do so.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Trayvon Martin’s death and express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. We also respect their privacy and feel it inappropriate to get involved or comment further as we would never wish for our actions to be perceived as an attempt of commercial gain following this tragedy.”

Meanwhile, there are reports that a few stores have deals on hoodies: buy one, get one free.

Martin was also wearing a hoodie at the time he was gunned down by Zimmerman.
