An Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputy was working an off-duty security detail at Walmart at 904 Cypress Parkway. OCSO stated that Walmart contracts deputies to enhance safety and security for customers.
At approximately 7:45pm, a Walmart loss prevention officer informed the deputy that three males had concealed merchandise and were approaching the exit without paying. When the deputy confronted them, they attempted to flee according to law enforcement.
OCSO said one suspect, armed with a handgun, moved toward other customers while evading the deputy. The deputy discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Three armed bystanders informed the deputy they were prepared to assist as the other two suspects fled in an unknown direction.
