Shooter at Orlando Festival Charged with Attempted First Degree Murder

The Orlando Police Department made an arrest after a suspect opened fire at a festival back on May 29th at 2100 W. Washington St. in Orlando. Two adult victims were struck by gunfire at the time, according to local police. One of those victims was holding a young child in his arms and was fired upon multiple times at a close distance.

The child was miraculously uninjured. The two adult victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Orlando Police Department.

OPD detectives identified the shooter as 29-year-old Rashawn Francis and an arrest warrant was obtained. Members of OPD’s Fugitive Investigative Unit apprehended Francis in late June for the crime.

Francis was charged with three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm; Aggravated Battery with a Firearm; Child Abuse; and five counts of Criminal Mischief, according to law enforcement.

It’s another example of the ongoing gun violence and crime in Orlando under Mayor Buddy Dyer’s administration.
